Successfully Recruit and Manage your Clinical Trials — Zoomedia and Panelists Discuss Clinical Trial Awareness & Recruitment at BayBio’s 2008: Doing Well by Doing Right Conference
March 21, 2008

Clinical trials play a central role in scientific advances yet recruiting patients into clinical trials, and keeping them in trials once they’ve signed on, is a huge challenge that many in the industry view as daunting. According to CenterWatch, 81% of all clinical trials are delayed at least one to six months due to difficulties in patient enrollment, with another 5% postponed six months or more. Reducing the length of a clinical trial by just one month by improving patient recruitment could generate an additional $40 million in sales for an average drug, according to a McKinsey study completed last year.

The Internet plays an increasing role in raising potential participant’s awareness of ongoing trials currently recruiting patients, while providing accurate and current information to patients who are interested in participating so they can make an educated and informed decision. Online clinical trial campaigns including awareness building and the use of common search tools such as the Google Maps interface can be helpful in simplifying the process of finding a clinical trial.

We have created a Clinical Trials search tool as an example.

Without these essential tools in-hand, the lack of patient awareness will remain a major impediment to trial recruitment. The consequences are extreme – for example, the number of ongoing oncology trials and patient requirements far surpasses the number of available cancer patients who are aware of trials.

To further explore these issues, Zoomedia will be moderating a panel discussion entitled “Online Clinical Trial Recruitment” during BayBio’s 2008: “Doing Well by Doing Right” conference taking place in San Francisco on Thursday, April 17, 2008 at 11:30am.

Learn how to successfully recruit and manage your clinical trials using interactive strategies and online networking tools.

Panelists include:

  • Ronnie Todaro, National Director of PDtrials and The Parkinson’s Disease Foundation
  • Scott Connor VP, Marketing, Acurian, Inc.
  • Dawn Judd, mother of Clara Judd-Donaldson, Leukemia survivor who will offer a real-life perspective of Clara's participation in clinical trials.

Topics:

  1. Obstacles and problems that have historically faced clinical trial recruitment
  2. Online solutions to help companies overcome these problems
  3. Review of company case studies that show tangible results of increasing recruitment through online tactics such as SEM campaign, Patient Recruitment websites, Clinical Investigator Portals, and more.

See you there ...
